Buying in Barcelona
Buyers Checklist
- Start thinking about what you want to buy and where. Do you prefer a terrace? Do you want to be in the centre of Barcelona or close to the beach? Try browsing our website to get an idea about properties and prices.
- Remember to add 10% to the advertised price in the property listing to cover taxes and various fees. These are explained in greater detail under the buying process.
- Try to get pre-approved for a mortgage before you start looking at properties, this way you have a set price to work with. Casamona can recommend someone who will help you do this for free.
- Contracts to purchase property become legally binding very quickly, so make sure you re 100% before you sign anything.
- If you are a non-resident, you must obtain a N.I.E. to buy property in Spain. The process for obtaining one is explained in the section "NIE number".
- Once you have decided on a property, it will usually take one-two months for all paperwork to be complete and the purchase to be finalised.
- You will need to set-up a Spanish bank account if you would like the running costs for the property dealt with by Direct Debit. Choose your Spanish bank carefully as costs and charges vary between banks. Try talking to your bank at home to see if they have a relationship with a Spanish bank.
