Granja Petitbo

All good days start with a delicious brunch affair, whether that’s after a day of sight seeing or simply as a treat on the weekend. Granja Petitbo, located on the edge of Eixample, is one of many great spots with everything from huevos rancheros to pancakes, fresh and healthy food to get you in a cosy mood. For the ultimate “hygge” experience, bring your friends and family and spend the whole morning here.

La Carretera

Nothing beats a good walk, in the crisp winter air of Barcelona. For a panoramic view of the city, often ventured by the runners of Barcelona, head to La Carretera de les Aigües. Take the Funicular de Vallvidrera one third of the way up, and walk the rest of the way – it is well worth the walk once you get to the top. Wrap up warm in a cosy coat, and have a good chat as you make your way to a spectacular viewpoint of the city.

Trainers are recommended.

The Horta Labyrinth

If a hike up the hill doesn’t sound like your thing, then getting lost in The Horta Labyrinth might be more up your street. Located on the outskirts of the city, this 820-yard long labyrinth is a great place to spend an afternoon. Designed in 179 by Domenico Bagutti, the Italian engineer, it is Barcelona’s oldest garden and also boasts the home of the Torre Soberana.

Antic Theatre

The Antic Theatre is a wonderful place to explore new art and productions, or merely grab a drink with a few friends and have a good time. Located in the Old Town, it consists of an open-air terrace, surrounded by traditional buildings. There is currently a 60 minute play on, called Rebota Rebota Y En Tu Cara Explota, by Agnes Mateus and Quim Tarrida. Often busy at night, frequented by the young students of the city, the enchanting atmosphere whilst on the terrace is the perfect place for a cosy night.

La Bodega d’em Rafael

Many relate “hygge” to a cosy and dimly lit environment, which creates a good atmosphere with lots of chatty people. If this is what you are looking for, then head to La Bodega d’em Rafael, a friendly and cheap bar, open all day long and run by Rafael himself. Spend the evening here eating homemade traditional tapas with the friendliest of people!

Wander the streets of Barcelona

Another typical day of hyggelig in Barcelona  is simply spending the day wandering the everlasting streets of Barcelona, looking at artisan boutiques and independent designers. El Born has many of these boutiques and art galleries, however Carrer Peu de la Creu is also a great location to start. When it gets too cold, you can head to the Arús Public Library, for an untouched place to relax and unwind with a book or magazine. The library was originally a private home. Its glass fronted cabinets and wooden shelves will transport you back in time – a reading spot that rivals many.
